Mitsubishi Chemical Media Ltd. will release the first dual-layer HD DVD-R media for data by the end of this month.

The all new HD DVD-R media offers a capacity of 30GB using two layers. It can be recorded at 1x, conforming to the HD DVD Recordable (HD DVD-R) Ver.2.1 standard.

The HD DVD-R media will be available on the Japanese market by the first of this month, priced at approximately 4,000 Yen ($33 USD). No word yet on when the media will be available to the US market.
